Lip Care FAQs
Why Does Lip Balm Dry Out My Lips?
Similar to the rest of your face, your lips are unique. This means some products will help hydrate and improve texture, but others can irritate or dry them. A variety of ingredients common in lip balms and oils can be irritating (such as menthol, fragrance, mineral oil, paraffin or color) and its good to test out alternate products for proper hydration.
How Often Do You Exfoliate Your Lips?
It’s good practice in dry weather to exfoliate your lips around twice a week. You can do it less if you are noting irritation, or more if you are struggling with dry, flaking lips. Be sure to exfoliate gently using either a damp face towel, toothbrush or light scrub – and follow with a hydrating lip mask to restore moisture.
What are the benefits of lip oils?
Where lip balms are thicker, a lip oil is more fluid and has improved contact with lips and hydration. A lip oil is highly beneficial for a deeper penetration of moisture, as well as to help maintain moisture overnight, before bed. Over time, lip oils help improve lip texture, reduce flaking of skin and improves lip softness and plumpness.
