Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Review - A Berry Good Way to Wake Up?
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask Honest Review
Laneige started in South Korea in 1994, making it a literal legend in Korean skincare. It has created high-quality, lasting and result-strong skincare for 30 years now, making its way across the world and into our hearts. It’s Cream Skin Cerapeptide Refiner has remained a living legend amount dry skin and it’s Radian-C line provided a masterful explosion of antioxidants to lift pigment and refresh skin tone.
But none is more famous than their lip mask. Many have tried to copy, but its subtle pink berry origins are notable wherever it is. Its bright, vibrant color cannot be mistaken. It is likely one of the most recognizable lip products available on the beauty market and its had multiple resurgences. So, in this cool Australian winter – where many of us are struggling with dry, cracked lips... is it the true saviour?
What's In The Bottle?
So, what ingredients are in this famous lip mask? It has a base of standard lip balm ingredients, to help stabilize solids, ensure it glides onto lips well and creates a lasting mask. The other highlights include:
Shea Butter – this forms the base of the lip mask. It’s nourishing and high in fatty acids to help repair damaged skin cells and hydrate.
Palm Seed Butter: made from high fatty-acid seeds of palm tree, this forms an oil rich in oleic acid to soften and nourish lips.
Raspberry/Cranberry/Strawberry/Blueberry extract: brightening and high in vitamins, this cocktail of fruits helps to repair skin by infusion of antioxidants and helps provide its natural pink color.
Beta-glucan: a soft sugar molecule that helps draw water to it, giving a natural boost and plumping effect.
Sodium hyaluronate: water humectant that helps seal skin barrier and draw water deep into skin cells for lasting hydration.
Coffee extract: brightens and refreshes skin cells, whilst improving circulation in lips for better health.
What Are The Promises?
Laneige has kept it simple – they promise smoother, softer and supple lips overnight. Easy! They are confident that they combination of antioxidants, shea butter and brightening extracts can do the trick.
The ideal way to use this lip mask is just before bed, applying a healthy coating and, after a good night’s sleep, performing a light exfoliation in the morning.
Who Should Avoid?
With lip care, it’s important to know your lip type. Might sound weird, but yeah – not everyone’s lips are the same. For thicker lips (with harsh dryness) you are more in need of a penetrating oil, where as thinner skin benefits better from butter-type lip balms.
It’s important to find out what suits you best, but if you are partial to a buttery lip balm (and it suits your lips well), then this lip mask will likely be perfect for you! If you are requiring more watery lip oil, however, you either might require more hydration prior to the lip mask as it can dry out thicker lip types.
What Are The Results?
What do you know – I had dry lips just before this review! In Australian winter, I often forget to drink enough water and I often wake up with dry and heavily chapped lips. As I have thicker lips, I meld very well with a lip oil or water serum – but I was determined to try out the dream mask. And the results are quite plain; it is deeply hydrating and soothing.
It has a soft pink color and comes with a buttery, gooey texture that absorbs quickly and creates a protective layer over lips. It helps hydrate and deeply refresh skin – but it does require a gentle exfoliation in the morning (especially for thicker lip types). This can easily be done as part of your shower routine, either with a warm damp face towel (gently scrubbing lips) or by mixing in a little sugar with honey or balm and performing a soft scrub.
This gives you a perfect morning base to apply your favorite lip products for soft, incredibly supple lips!
This mask can be drying (as mentioned for thicker lip types), but if you have thinner lips and require a strong protection to create incredibly soft, hydrated lips – this is the mask designed for you. I trialed out the famous Berry, but it comes in a variety of flavors across the internet.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a locked-in hydration and especially in thinner lip types – this could be the only mask you want for the rest of your days. If you have a thicker lip type like me, it's important to remember your morning exfoliation to help ensure you are allowing natural skin turnover and you won’t end up with a weird, drying feeling when you wake up!
But, apart from that – there's a reason this lip mask was everywhere and it simply works.
