Clearing Acne in 2 Weeks | Dr Jart+ Teatreement Cleansing Foam Review
Dr Jart+ produces high-level skincare that is carefully designed with the help of dermatologists. They have created a lasting range of skincare products for a variety of concerns, with natural ingredients blended to produce great results. Acne is the most common skincare condition – with a high prevalence in the population. As such, its a common product to see in any skincare line and Dr Jart is no different.
There’s a variety of ways to tackle acne and reduce outbreaks; such as exfoliation, deep cleansing and using botanical extracts that inhibit bacteria (which form acne spots). Dr Jart has opted for all three in this gentle, but deep cleanser. With a whopping 41% tea tree extract (sourced from Australia), blended with exfoliating BHA – this cleanser helps with three different strategies to help reduce blemishes and acne spots.
But why tea tree? Simply put, tea tree is a powerful essential oil extracted from Australian Melaleuca trees. It has powerful antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory and has broad-spectrum action against bacteria. Studies have proven that application of tea tree to skin (in balanced amounts) helps reduce number of lesions, reduce general redness and help balance and hydrate skin. Tea tree has been a popular treatment in South Korea for a number of years and it's even been applied in other areas of medicine to reduce bacterial outbreaks.
So, how does the Dr Jart cleanser fare with 41% tea tree extract? For the base of their cleanser, they use a more crude (and gentle) tea tree extract – dispersed with more stronger tea tree oil (which is most effective at around 5% concentration for skin treatment). Balanced with other botanical extracts and gentle coconut-based cleansers, it seems like a hit! Let’s check it out.
What's in the Bottle?
Tea Tree Leaf Extract: as mentioned above, this is a powerful acne treatment. Anti-inflammatory action helps calm redness and swelling and the broad antibacterial action means it reduces acne-causing bacteria.
Centella asciatica extract: hydrating herbal remedy extracted from cica plants, that helps cool inflamed and irritated skin, whilst boosting moisture.
Fig extract: helps boost skin hydration, balance oils on skin and prevent stress damaging skin texture.
Green tea extract: calming extract that helps soothe redness and repair skin barrier. Rich in catechins that helps soothe the immune system and refresh skin texture.
Chamomile extract: rich in antioxidants, chamomile helps calm and soothe irritated skin, whilst helping boost natural healing processes.
Japanese Elm extract: boosts natural barrier healing, by increasing cell growth factors and cooling inflammation and redness. Perfect for irritated skin.
Witch Hazel extract: refreshing medicinal remedy that helps immediately hydrate and cool irritated and sensitive skin to boost healing and refreshed texture.
Aloe vera extract: succulent extract rich in natural moisture that helps cool redness and deeply hydrate skin with an effect that reduces heat.
Cinnamon bark: antibacterial extract that helps reduce acne-causing bacteria, whilst stimulating collagen and peptide synthesis in skin cells for renewal.
Pine tree extract: cooling and anti-inflammatory bark extract that helps refresh irritation, itching and redness in skin for balanced and cooled skin.

Who Should Avoid?
This cleanser is an almost prescribed treatment for acne-prone skin. It's designed to be gentle enough for more sensitive skin, but is perfectly designed for oily skin types to help balance and refresh oils. It helps reduce acne-causing bacteria, moisturize and restructure skin microbiome.
It will have very little benefit outside of acne treatment and would not be helpful to dry skin (likely to irritate and dry out skin barrier!)
The Results
This cleanser is a carefully designed treatment to help clear, refresh and cool acne. It's deeply rich in botanical extracts that are specially designed to reduce acne-causing bacteria, reduce redness in skin and boost healing to help prevent acne scarring and damaged skin. This makes it very specially designed for oily skin and acne (which made it perfect for my skin type) - but would definitely be drying for other skin types.
It comes out as a light gel, which lathers into a gentle foam that is not stripping or irritating. It contains salicylic acid, so massaging it into your skin you can feel it removing dead skin cells for softer, refreshed skin. Tea tree can be drying, so its important to not layer too many tea tree products as it can increase irritation. On its own, however, this cleanser was easily added to my morning routine for a daily, deep cleanse that left my skin feeling softer, hydrated and calmer.
In the above picture, you can see the fresh acne spots that I was struggling to help cool and hydrate. I was carefully trying to alter my routine to reduce the outbreak and was being very critical of what products I was picking (acne gets tiring). This cleanser stood out as clinically beneficial for acne - with every aspect of its design perfect for balancing and refreshing oil skin. And it makes a perfect, gentle accoutrement to help refresh and reduce acne.
Within two weeks of using, it didn't cure my acne outright - but it reduced the size of spots, vanished redness from them and helped my skin feel more moisturized. The addition of allantoin makes it a very hydrating cleanser (compared to other acne cleansers that can be stripping), upholding Dr Jart+ dedication to excellent skincare.
Final Thoughts
This cleanser is a great addition to an acne-friendly skincare routine - especially to help refresh and balance your skin biome. It would not be beneficial to dry skin types - as the tea tree would likely dry out your skin further and risk irritation or infection. For oily skin types, however, its gently balancing, exfoliates and gently hydrates - making it a good quality cleanser to refresh and cool acne.
