Instant Bubbly Spa-Time | Be The Skin Heartleaf O2 Bubble Wash Off Maskpack Review
Be The Skin is a demure, cute K-beauty brand that combines simplicity with deep skincare. They have gone through a variety of iterations for skincare, but the one they perfectly excel at is oily skincare. Their Zero Pore range is legendary, including their powerful serum (which we have used ourselves), which is perfect to balance oils, tighten pores and creates dryer, clearer skin in just a few weeks! They create accessible, vegan and botanical products with careful consideration of their effect.
Their Heartleaf Bubble product has been a long-time favourite, with the power of soothing heartleaf blended with refreshing green tea, calendula and balancing bay leaf extract. It’s blended in a coconut-based soap that is blended with Methyl Perfluorobutyl ether, which releases a large burst of oxygen when exposed to the air, which gets trapped in little bubbles. These burst and move against your skin for a very light exfoliation, to help wake up skin – but mostly provides a deep cleanse for your pores. This makes them perfect for oily skin types for an extended type of cleansing, which makes them perfect as part of an evening routine or to put on just before you sink into a steamy bath.
So, is it worth buying for oily or acne-prone skin? We test out the bubble mask and see if will help cleanse and refresh pores as well as reduce acne outbreaks.
What's in the Bottle?
Methyl Perfluorobutyl ether: as mentioned previously, this is our oxygen producer – which creates a vibrant bubbling effect as the mask is exposed to the air.
Heartleaf extract: enriches skin with moisture, whilst reducing acne-causing bacteria and boosting skin immunity, for better healing and strength, whilst reducing skin irritation (perfect for sensitive or damaged skin).
Green tea extract: rich in antioxidants and catechins, helps boost natural healing, refreshes red spots and irritation on skin, whilst improving DNA repair and skin elasticity.
Macadamia oil: moisturizes and softens skin texture, helps lift fine lines and improves skin healing for stronger, refreshed skin appearance.
Jojoba oil: enriches and hydrates skin, whilst boosting collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis from within skin cells for firmer, stronger skin.
Calendula extract: traditional healing salve made of bright flowers that helps soothe redness, itching and boosts the healing of breaks in the skin, perfect for acne or irritated skin.
Bayleaf extract: boosts natural healing of skin cells, whilst boosting collagen regeneration for plumper, softer skin.
Butterfly Bush Extract: rich in antioxidants and gently soothes irritation, to strengthen skin barrier for a healthier glow.
Who Should Avoid?
This is a balancing cleansing mask that is designed to help refresh pores and reduce oils on the surface of your skin. It makes it great to refresh acne and oily skin, but not so much for skin that is already dry. This mask is likely to be too drying if you have naturally dry skin, flaking spots or dehydrated skin – this mask is not going to give you a massive benefit (you will be better off with a soothing sheet mask, or hydrating wash off mask – such as Mary&May Blackberry Glow Wash Off Pack).
The Results
This mask comes in the renovated bottle that comes with at least 20 uses (depending on how thick you like your bubble mask). It is best used on recently cleaned skin to deeply reach pores, but you can use it at the end of a long day to start your cleansing journey. I have combination skin and acne and am always looking for a good pore mask that can be used to balance oily zones on my face. This mask was perfect for an end of day bathtime, or just for a few minutes of peace – it comes as a sticky serum, which adheres well to skin and covers your whole face in 2-3 pumps.
After literal seconds, the mask starts to bubble up – and it BUBBLES up, almost twice as much as other bubble masks that I’ve tried in the past. It creates an almost aggressive amount of bubbles on your face, but are so light that apart from the gentle tickling, you can set and forget it whilst it does it’s thing. The bubbling effect is very ticklish, but also has an addictive exfoliating effect as you can feel it clean in real time. It lathers up, massages well and washes off easily – without stripping your natural skin moisture, allowing great balance for oily zones, without making you feel dried out.
Here is the before and after of a few uses – which helps hydrate and brighten skin with each use; whilst being acne-friendly and helping reduce the appearance of spots. It’s definitely an acne-friendly pore mask – but its primary benefit is helping balance oily skin (helping to avoid that deep shine the next day). If you have oily skin and are just looking for a gentle evening mask to help reduce excess oils – this is a great addition to your routine. If you are struggling with acne – this treatment is likely too gentle to massively tackle big red spots or vanish outbreaks – but if you are acne-prone and looking to balance oils, this mask will not trigger outbreaks.
Final Thoughts
As most bubble masks, this product is a whole lot of fun! It’s a great addition to balance oily skin, provides a deeper cleanse or pores for better skin texture and helps avoid overly shininess the next day. It might provide a cleanse that’s too aggressive for dry skin types – but is safe for sensitive skin and acne-prone skin for a little bubble fun!
