Refresh and Renew Skin in 10 Min | Axis-Y New Skin Resolution Gel Mask Review
Axis-Y New Skin Resolution Gel Mask Honest Review
Launched in 2019, Axis-Y developed its products to form solutions for skin issues based on how the environment affects it. With vegan formulas and nature-inspired ingredients, this company rose to fame with its Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum. It provided the original solution to breakouts, providing a rich relief to acne, reducing bacteria with rosemary oil, blended with tone evening niacinamide and brightening rice extract. It was a strong, contending product that many would reach to time and again to create clear, smooth skin and had a mild formula that blended well with any routine. This serum used to be the only product I’d buy – as its thick, soothing formula was hydrating, refreshed acne and provided a deep glow.
So, when Axis Y came out with a calming mugwort, gel mask ‘The New Skin Resolution Mask’ – I was excited to trial it out. A bath-time soothing mask, in my opinion, is peak care for acne and deeply calms the soul. So, I picked out the gel mask, prepped a bubble bath and tested it out!
What's in the Bottle?
Niacinamide (2%): brightening and tone evening vitamin B3 that helps lift dark spots, clear skin and leaves a lasting, deep glow.
Centella asciatica extract: rich, hydrating herbal extract that helps calm irritation, redness and boost skin barrier.
Heartleaf extract: cooling extract that helps reduce acne, plump skin and refresh fine lines. A large booster for moisture to maintain natural skin health and glow. Forms the little green leaves present in the gel.
Fig extract: rich in refreshing antioxidants to greatly reduce cell stress, whilst boosting the strength of the natural skin barrier.
Kelp extract: deeply moisturizing kelp extract, rich in vitamins and minerals from the ocean which instills deep calm into skin barrier.
Neem tree extract: vital extract that helps calm redness, irritation and boost natural skin elasticity. A perfect salve for acne to calm inflammation.
Calendula floral extract: boosts natural wound healing, cools irritation and protects skin barrier. Used as a traditional medicine due to its healing abilities.
Rosemary Leaf oil: rich in antioxidants and powerfully repels acne-causing bacteria to reduce appearance of whiteheads and spots.
Roman Chamomile flower (Anthemis nobilis): deeply soothing ingredient that helps refresh redness and irritation, whilst boosting skin radiance.
Rosewood oil extract: protective element that helps restore elasticity, balance skin oils and boosts healing.
Enriched with brightening madecassoside, this gel cream also contains hydrating hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan and soothing allantoin to form a moisturizing gel base.
Who Should Avoid?
This gel mask is soothing and sensitive-skin friendly – but not likely to benefit skin that is sensitive to any of the ingredients (i.e. butylene glycol, mugwort, neem extract). These extracts are also not recommended during pregnancy. This mask is not hydrating enough to benefit very dry skin – but can give a good boost to combination, oily and sensitive skin types.
The Results
As promised, this lightweight gel mask made a perfect addition to a bubbly bath-tub. I have combination, acne-prone skin that gets irritated on a good day, so the combination of heartleaf, neem and mugwort was incredibly soothing. It’s all blended into a clear, jelly mask. You can see dried heartleaf in the gel and it immediately feels cooling when applied to your face. With all the traditional herbal extracts blended into this mask (mugwort, calendula, heartleaf etc) it truly feels like a healing salve that you can feel working in real time.
It is a bit sticky to wash off – but with a little warm water, it leaves your face feeling clean and deeply refreshed, without needing an added face cleanser. It left my skin feeling calmer, baby-soft and nourished and genuinely has upheld my expectations of Axis-Y. It made a perfect acne-friendly addition to bath-time and was a great, relaxing face mask that gave an immediate soothing effect.
Here’s the immediate before and after of a 10-minute mask. You can see the general redness and irritation on my cheeks before using the mask. I was mildly under the weather, feeling hot and this mask was so incredibly soothing and refreshing. I timed exactly 10 minutes, curious to see if there would be an effect in such little time. And, behold, in just ten minutes my skin felt cooler, looked calmer and it wicked away all the excess oil on my face.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a neat little mask to soothe at the end of the day (and tend to break out with sheet masks like I do), this little gel is perfect. It’s incredibly soothing, calming and helps reduce immediate redness with just one use. I wouldn’t put it in a line-up to ‘treat’ acne, but it definitely will help bring balance to your face (and is ideal to relax with before bed).
