So - what is the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro? Simply, its a small, hand-held wand that can be applied to the skin - and emits specialised electrical impulses to create six different effects. It utilizes the technology in all Medicube devices before it - using a combination of Electroporation, Electric Microcurrents, Electromagnetic Stimulation, Microneedling, LED and Sonic Vibration. It's designed to work through the 4 specialised modes to create the maximum effect - although you can easily select your own regime.

To each mode there are 3 different levels of intensity (with 1 being the lowest and recommended for beginners to 3 which is high-intensity treatment). The device is bluetooth connectable - so you can use the app to alter intensity, switch modes and customize your LED light and vibration.

Used after cleansing step in beauty care regime. After cleansing, carefully dry skin and ensure no moisture is present. Carefully using the edge of the brush head, sweep in one direction over problem areas (i.e. acne-prone, large pores).

This mode uses high-voltage waves to create non-damaging passages through the skin. This prevents pore blockages and irratation - which in turn prevents acne and helps minimize pore size. This is a key step in achieving the 'glass skin' glow - and also gently exfoliates. It's a strong treatment - that only requires use every 2-3 days (with breaks in between), which should lead to immediate difference in pore appearance and acne.  

This is the mode that supercharges your favourite serums and creams - using electroporation to pulse microscopic channels into your skin layer and allowing products to infiltrate deep into living skin cells. Instead of wasting any product on dead skin cells on the surface - hyaluronic acids, collagen boosters and vitamins are able to penetrate the deeper epidermis.

There are 3 techniques that can be used to help absorb products; Watering (circular motion massage), Boosting (gliding motion across the skin to gently pass over pores) and Focus (1-2s on a single problem spot to zap product deeply). This helps products deeply absorb into skin and shows great results - from invisible pores to plump, deeply hydrated skin. Can be used up to 3 times daily as preferred.

This mode is for helping product integrate into skin to control fine and deeper lines in the face. It uses a low voltage to allow the user to carefully track upwards across the face to increase elasticity of skin and improve contour. 

After applying product to the face, the wand should be gently pulled upwards, from inside to outside - tracing along cheeks and forehead. This is best done using a boosting cream - such as Medicube's Collagen Jelly Cream to bring moisture and glow and a deep, deep hydration.

The derma shot mode is designed to lift and sculpt your face structure, using strong electrical impulses that triggers facial muscles and increases strength and tensile appearance of skin. This mode lifts cheekbone appearance, flattens cheeks and gives a deep, facial appearance that can lead to a chiseled appearance.

The electrical impulses are strong and it is recommended to start on a low level for beginners and increase intensity based on experience and desired outcome. Apply a favourite skincare product to face and gently trace along jawline and cheekbones - where muscles will twitch/move in response to the powerful treatment. It is important to start slow and follow instructions, but can lead to a dramatic change to face shape.

Medicube has a specialised schedule they recommend for weekly use to maximise results at home - but its important to trial out what works best for your skin. They recommend using the modes in order - and alternating days - but using the Booster mode everyday with your favourite K-beauty items to maximise their use and depth in skin.

The Medicube team thought a lot about the beautician experience in designing and selling this device - with a very long battery time (lasting weeks at a time between charges) and being compatible with USB-C, meaning you can charge it with your phone charger. When using different modes, a calming voice helps keep track of time and will automatically shut off after a designated time in each mode (5-10 minutes) to prevent overuse.

Each mode comes with a specialised LED light use to match treatment type - i.e. The Airshot mode comes with a calming, blue LED light that is designed specifically to reduce bacteria and prevent future growth. This allows a full range of treatment, from light to sound to vibration in each mode. This is also customisable in the Medicube Pro app, which can also be used to switch modes in real time, record use and track your skincare journey with you.

Although there are a large variety of benefits that come with the Age-R Booster Pro, it is very important to examine the downsides that come with the device. It is a powerful beauty treatment device that needs to be respectfully used and there are a few people it may not suit.

It is not recommended during pregnancy or breast-feeding as there is increased skin sensitivity during this time.

It is not recommended to individuals after recent botox or surgery - as the device is powerful enough to shift botox placement/change face structure and can interrupt healing. It is not recommended on open wounds or highly inflammed acne/abrations as it can lead to worsening irritation. 

It is important to be careful if you have sensitive skin as it can lead to irritation - although this can be balanced by using non-irritative products and sticking to lower settings until skin tolerance is noted.

I have sensitive and acne-prone skin, but wanted to help tone up my face and tighten up loose skin. I also naturally have large pores and wanted to use the AGE-R Booster Pro's Booster mode to improve my skin texture (by enhancing deep hydration). I started slowly adding the device to my daily routine (PM - evening routine) with my products.

The device is easy to use, has a long battery time (it took me almost a month to need to charge it) and is highly customizable with the app. You can literally change up the schedule and pick modes that you love based on what your skin type is and what your skincare goals are. I focused on using Booster Mode to improve my skin texture and Derma Shot mode to help lift and tighten my face structure. It helps reduce sagging of cheeks and jaw and when used with skin-compatible products help enhance deeper glow.

Above you can see the change to the structure of my face over 1 month of using the device. It helped sharpen my cheek bone definition and lift the lower jaw to reduce the ‘pudgy’ appearance. It does reduce if you cease using the device for some time, but is easy to get back to baseline. I found lightweight gels and serums the best to use with the booster (and it was vital to avoid triggers for my acne as the Booster mode can actually risk deeper acne spots and needs to be used thoughtfully).

My favourite daily use of the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro was how the Booster mode changed my skin texture dramatically. Using it with hydrating serums (such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, panthenol) helped shrink pores dramatically and made ‘glass skin’ almost effortless to achieve. It allows you to ‘flood’ your skin with hydrating agents and creates a perfectly smooth, glowing texture.

More than that, it was a big motivator for taking my skincare more seriously. It became a big part of my daily ‘unwind’ after a busy day at work and helped my relax and feel refreshed for bed. The gentle buzzing of the device and peaceful chimes was a moment of meditation and provides an addictive massage to your face, all the way to deep muscles.

The benefits of electroporation and the effect that Medicube has acheived is indeed very real - there a variety of studies behind the technology that the device utilizes - from Electroporation to Microneedling of skin, to the Sonic sound waves. These have been demonstrated to be genuine treatments to improve fine lines, improve topical treatments and remodel the skin barrier and appearance. Even the therapeutic LED light choices have a carefully thought-out place in skincare.

It is a strong device that uses sonic waves and ensure you are well-versed in the instructions and don’t over use it. The battery power lasts for hours and most people end up only charging it once a week. In terms of longevity, the product was only launched in Feb 2024 and has a 1-year warranty. So there really are no reports of how long this product will last beyond that – but there’s little data of the device breaking.

You can technically use any products with the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro - but there are definitely products that are better suited to its use. In my experience, simple products (with fewer ingredients) are best as there is a far reduced risk of irritation. Seek out ingredients that are both soothing and hydrating - such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, peptides and PDRN.
