The Last Big Trend of 2025 | How Do Bubble Serums Work?
How Do Bubble Serums Work?
Bubbles and foam have been used in cleansing and feeling ‘squeaky clean’ since forever. This is due to bubbles unique ability to adhere to a surface, creating a complex net that sticks well to the skin, whilst creating a moisture barrier. As the bubbles dry, the actives inside deposit on the skin, creating an active movement of ingredients into your skin barrier. This has made it great for cleansers and toners for a while, as the active ‘popping’ of bubbles creates a deeper interaction with the skin. This can be great for a deeper absorption that is gentle and moisturizing.
Not just that, bubbles are fun! On a basic level, people using foamy and bubbly products have a deeper sense of satisfaction and feel ‘cleaner’, so there’s a psychological benefit to adding a little bubble fun to your routine.
How to Use Bubble Serum?
Now that we can see the scientific benefit of using a bubble serum to help treat your skin, how do you add them to your routine? The order in which you apply your skincare ideally should be lightest to heaviest. And bubbles are probably some of the ‘lightest’ skincare you can get, hence why they are already popular in toners and cleansers.
After cleansing and toning steps of your routine, is the perfect time to add in your bubble serum. Majority of bubble serums provide great coverage with just 1-2 pumps, which is then lightly spread across your face and massaged gently into the skin barrier. You can create a foamy layer and leave it to gently pop and dry for a more gentle application (although this is better in a longer routine and can be time consuming).

FAQs - Bubble Serum
What are Bubble Serums?
Bubble serums are a fun new way to help infuse ingredients into your skin. They are especially great for oily skin, as they are light in ingredients and the gentle mechanical action of the bubbles popping helps exfoliate and refresh pores. They are perfect for helping achieve that glassy skin aesthetic. Not only are they an enhanced new way to absorb ingredients for oily skin, but bubble products have also been shown to enhance mood, making it a great purchase for loved ones who need a little lift in their life.
How to Use Bubble Serums?
Always try to use products from lightest to heaviest, to ensure the light watery products can absorb deeply and the thicker products can form a protective seal to keep in moisture and enhance absorption. After cleansing and toning skin, apply bubble serum first (as its formula is mostly air and absorbs quickly). Follow with other serums, then thicker ampoules and moisturizer as per your usual routine.
Is Retinol Safe in Bubble Serum?
This was a concern I had when testing out retinol-based bubble serums, but was delightfully surprised at the low irritation. Retinol can be quite irritating, but when formulated in light bubbles, it absorbs deeper and is balanced well with soothing botanicals (such as oat, rice etc) to help moisturize and calm skin. The retinol level in most bubble serums makes them quite safe to use on their own, but keep an eye out if you are on stronger retinoids or already use retinol in your routine.
