Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro X2 Review! Is Bigger Better?

When Apple announced the original iPhone in 2007, the world held its breath. Amazed by the intricate and advanced technology, all condensed into a single handheld device, they rocketed to the top and have held onto that moment for decades since. The Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro is that, but for skincare.

The sheer leaps and bounds that Medicube made, not just in design, but in science and technology was amazing. For those of us who research skincare, it was really a jaw-dropping moment that you had to hold in your hands to believe.

Where other companies were boasting about their $300 LED face masks or their ‘depuffing’ microcurrent device - Medicube had delivered 5 different technologies into a single device:

Electroporation - with +600% improved absorption with Booster Mood
Microcurrent - gentle waves that tighten skin and reduce puffiness
EMS - Electromagnetic waves that stimulated facial muscles to tone your face's entire structure
Pore Care - electric microneedling that helps clear pores deeply for smoother, clearer skin.
LED therapy - with 5 different lights to stimulate skin growth, reduce acne-causing bacteria and soothe.

This is even BIGGER and BETTER in their latest device. Medicube has not just ‘increased the strength’ in their latest release: the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro X2. They have made the entire device more powerful, streamlined and genuinely exciting.

Not only does it add two new modes (Mask Mode and Dual Mode), it is far more customizable and delivers twice the power of the original (hence the name X2).

You can mix-and-match therapies, deliver twice the power to twice the depth and all of it comes with a gentler and more refreshing user experience.

If you've used the original AGE-R Booster Pro, you know the level of power that was built into the device. Despite my experience in skincare, I very rarely went up to level 5 and felt like lower levels were beneficial without pushing any limits, helping tone, hydrate and refresh my skin.

I was a little worried about the power in the new device as the original can be a little ‘zappy’ and twitchy. The X2 is just as light as the original and a similar size (although the treatment head is obviously bigger in size).

The design is just as ergonomic, but the X2 steel head slides better against the skin, with better contact and is easier to reach target areas. You can use Dual Mode to engage two therapies at once, allowing you to use a gentler mode (i.e. Booster mode) in the tip, and a stronger firming mode in the base (i.e. Derma Shot Mode).

It's cooling and refreshing to use (and can actually be a little hard to stop using, so it's great that it comes with an in-built timer).

This has twice the power and you can really feel it. But at the same time, it's gentler on your face. Where the original AGE-R Booster Pro can be ‘zappy’ and ‘painful’ at times, this new addition actually feels gentler on your face.

In place of a overly stimulating and irritating therapy, this head connects really well to the skin and instead produces a more rumbly ‘massage’ feeling (which is amaaaaaaaazing after a long day). I could personally use ‘Booster Mode’ and just drink up layers and layers of product into my skin for hours, as it releases so much tension from your face.

At the same time, you must be more careful with this device - especially around facial nerves. The device knows to turn itself off at 5 minutes, to prevent over-use and you can irritate the nerves of your face, so never linger over them and be conscious of using more powerful modes in these areas.

You can also customize your LED therapy and I really recommend selecting the right colours for your routine (and take advantage of these benefits):

LED therapy may seem silly (shining lights on your skin), but there is a wide variety of real benefits. Mixing up your LED therapy based on your skincare goals, along with products that help you get there is a real way to maximise skin firmness, reduce dark spots, boost hydration and help treat oily skin and acne.

It's also a fun part of the user experience, getting to customise your colours and get your skin refreshed. If you are after a quick glow, I really recommend using purple light therapy (for the combined benefits of red light & blue light therapy) along with orange light therapy (to reduce puffiness and reset your complexion).

The fun part about using a skincare device like the X2 is that it is highly customizable to your skin type! You can mix and match a variety of modes to achieve your own unique goals (and get that glassy glow!)

However, be sure to follow safety instructions, don't over use the device and be choosy about which ingredients you add to the device to prevent irritation.

This device is genuinely a big improvement on the original AGE-R Booster Pro. Although the original was effective, fun and well-designed, this device has pushed the boundaries again and created a far more exciting and dynamic and user friendly.

The therapies are more gentler on your skin and the wider steel head helps spread out some of the electromagnetic waves so they don't shock your skin. The absorption of skincare is quite crazy and you can easily use a few layers of product in one haul.

I have large pores and oily skin, but this device helped me achieve glass skin ✨ for genuinely the first time in my Korean beauty research. It was incredible the amount of change it can induce in your skin and you can feel the power in the device the moment you switch it on.

You can also see the toning to my cheekbone and improvement to my jawline (in just one week!) which shows the incredible power of this device.

It's a serious skincare device, very well suited to those who are very invested in beauty and high-quality skincare. It's vital to use the device correctly, listen to your unique skin needs - and you'll achieve seriously fabulous results!

Although this device is amazing, whether or not you should invest in it relies on a few important factors.

Value for money: if you buy expensive skincare and invest a lot into your skin, you are more likely to see a good return on your investment

Time: although Dual Mode does help you save time, it's important to consider if you have time to put into your routine - after all, this device requires 10-15min dedicated use every day or so.

Already Having an AGE-R Booster Pro: if you've already invested in a Booster Pro, it's better to hold onto your device for at least a year. Although this upgrade is much better, you'll still get a ton of the base benefits in the original.

So, is the x2 worth it? As someone who invests a lot in my skin, I seriously think so! If you tried the original and it wasn't for you, it's worth thinking about taking this one for a test drive as the technology has already jumped again. It's a more pleasant, customizable user experience and the powerful absorption can help overcome even large pores and fine lines for an unparalleled glow!

What’s New in the AGE-R Booster Pro X2 vs the original? 

It delivers twice the power, adds two new modes (Mask Mode and Dual Mode), and uses a wider medical steel head that glides better and feels gentler than the original, with improved skin compatibility. 

What is Dual Mode? 

Dual Mode runs two therapies at once, between MC mode, Derma Shot mode and Booster Mode. This combines two different therapy, allows deeper contouring and halves the time for your skincare. 

What Results can you Expect? 

In the review, one week of use helped reduce pore size, improve texture, even out oil, fade acne spots and scarring, lift cheekbones and create a glassy, smooth finish.
