Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro X2 - All the Features & Science!

Medicube has launched their latest skincare device and as their no.1 fan, of course we were the first Australian company to bring it to our shores. It’s their latest upgrade to their AGE-R Booster pro, known simply as the AGE-R Booster Pro X2. 

Why? Because they added the fire power of two Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro devices into one, single hand-held device (which is almost the same weight and size as the original!) With a dazzling array of new LEDs, two new skincare modes and an incredible amount of power, what makes it different than the original? We dive into the science, benefits and whether or not the newest device is something you need to add to cart! 

One of the cool new modes of the AGE-R Booster Pro X2 is the ‘Dual Mode.’ Designed for improved convenience and skin benefit, it allows you to pick between:
- Derma Shot mode
- MC mode
- Booster mode
In a range of configurations for both the top head and the bottom head. This allows you to experience the benefits of both at once, halving your skincare routine time. 

This mode can be switched up easily on the app and matched with therapeutic LED lights, which helps stimulate skin cells to tighten, heal and reduces acne-causing bacteria. This is the ultimate upgrade for those who struggle with a lengthy skincare routine, helping deliver richer therapies in combination for deeper absoprtion and stimulation of your favourite skincare products.

Dual mode is designed to save time and reduce the amount of time required to use the Booster Pro. It's important not to use the device for too long and be careful around important facial structures (such as twinging facial nerves, around your thyroid and around the under eye). 

With this device being more powerful, it's not recommended to exceed 5 minutes (especially as you're getting used to the device). The device has an auto timer to switch off at 5 min (and although the massaging quality is great, be sure to listen to it!)

Although it might feel like the wild west, Medicube has carefully selected the modes available on Dual Mode. Obviously Air Shot (which must be used on dry skin) is not available to combine (with others used with skincare products) and similarly Mask Mode is not available. 

It's designed to allow you to combine a current for toning skin (either Derma shot or MC) with an absorbing mode (Booster Mode), which gives you maximum benefit and doesn't risk irritation or damage to skin.

Medicube's other latest mode brings a wonderful upgrade to those who love a good face mask. They have introduced ‘Mask Mode’, which is used in unison with a sheet mask, stimulating the top and driving nutrients and hydration quickly into your skin for a gentle, massaging treatment.

Face masks are great tools to achieve ✨ glassy skin ✨and are designed to introduce a deeper hydration, soothing care to irritated and damaged skin and are customizable to deliver radiant ingredients (from vitamin C, to retinol, to collagen and more).

How does it work? The AGE-R Booster Pro X2 delivers a microcurrent that resonates with the cotton of the sheet mask to push nutrients and hydration in the direction of your face. It delivers a gentle force that improves absorption and drives a 9x improvement to skincare aborption from the sheet mask (With a 909% improved aborption of sheet mask nutrients).

No, although Medicube has a variety of famous hydrogel masks, they do not recommend using Mask Mode with hydrogel masks. It does not resonate the same way and hydrogel masks use gentle diffusion to absorb ingredients, so you won't get the same benefits. 

The device is designed so that you can use a sheet mask daily with the device, but in reality you won't need more than 1-2 masks a week. If you use a weekly sheet mask, the device is designed to maximize the benefit of it, so you can get glassier and more hydrated skin with ease.

At the start, it's best to start with a weekly sheet mask and see how your skin reacts to it. Also be picky about which mask you choose as, remember, it's about to be 9x more absorbed into your skin and impurities or irritative ingredients should not be your first pick (i.e. retinol, azeliac acid, high-dose vitamin C).

The original Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro is an amazing skincare device, with a variety of technologies. It is lightweight, customizable and gives 5 therapy types in one device. It has the same feel as the first iPhone - innovative, incredible and far more advanced than what any other beauty company can create.

The AGE-R Booster Pro X2 is the latest upgrade and release. Despite having twice the power, it's still just as lightweight and incredibly portable with a long-term battery life (over a week full-time use without needing to charge). If you are not yet in possession of a Booster Pro, it's genuinely worth considering getting the upgrade instead of the original. What’s the difference between the AGE-R Booster Pro and the X2? 

The X2 delivers twice the power, adds Mask Mode and Dual Mode, offers more customisable LED colours, and uses a wider steel head, while keeping the same light, ergonomic feel as the original.

What is Dual Mode and when should I use it? 

Dual Mode runs two therapies at once, a gentle Booster mode in the tip and a stronger firming mode in the base, so you can treat delicate and firmer areas in a single pass. It’s best once you’re confident with the device rather than on day one.

What is Mask Mode? 

Mask Mode is designed to be used with a sheet mask. It uses electroporation to push the mask’s serum and active ingredients deeper into the skin, boosting absorption and results from products you already use.

What do the LED colours do? 

Each colour targets a different goal, for example red for firmness, blue for acne, and combinations like purple for an all-round glow. Choosing the right colour for your routine lets you target firmness, dark spots, hydration and oily or acne-prone skin.

Is it safe to use every day? 

Yes, with a sensible routine. Use a serum or compatible product to prevent irritation, follow the recommended modes, and avoid lingering over sensitive nerve areas of the face with stronger settings.

Should I upgrade if I already own the original? 

If your original is less than a year old, it’s worth keeping, you’ll still get most of the core benefits. The X2 is most worth it for new buyers or anyone the original felt too “zappy” for.
