Top 10 Products to Use with Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro - Skincare Guide

Although you can use anything with the famous Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro, doesn’t mean you should! But, what products should you actually use with it?  

Considering that the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro device device deeply enhances absorption of your skincare products, it also means you should be sure to use pure, non-irritating and hydrating skincare products that will leave your skin better off. Using potentially aggravating ingredients (such as essential oils) can actually cause damage to your skin, as this product is no longer sitting on the surface as intended. 

A long-standing favourite in Korean beauty, essential oils have a number of beneficial actions (anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant). But this is with the understanding that the oils sit gently on the skin’s surface. Using the Booster and absorbing this deeper can immediately risk an allergic reaction, irritation and terrible breakouts to skin! 

You want to check your products before use and stay away from any potentially irritating essential oils; especially citrus oils, lavender oils or tea tree. 

Although wonderfully beneficial to skin in your cleansing steps, exfoliating acids are not a good idea for skincare device use. Again, these are designed to work on the outermost layer of skin, to gently melt away clogs to your pores as well as exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface layer. 

Infusing these deeper into skin layers can lead to redness, potential damage to underlying layers and actually can dry out your skin. Avoid ingredients such as AHA, BHA, PHA and Azelaic Acid. 

These are less common in K-beauty, due to their presence already increasing irritation risk of the skin barrier, but it’s a real no-no for skincare devices. These are added to products to make them more visually and sensually appealing, but have a very limited safety profile when infused deeper into skin. Be sure to pick fragrance-free products (or naturally fragrances) and keep an eye out for ‘metals’ in your skincare products that often indicate artificial colours (i.e. iron oxides, ferric ferrocyanide).

Anything with SPF+ should really not be used with a skincare device, as these are carefully formulated to sit in a specific layer of your skin. There’s a reason sunscreens are typically used at the end of your routine and this is because deep absorption is not known to be safe. 

It needs to form a protective shield on the surface of your skin – so be sure to avoid using anything with an SPF rating (including mineral sunscreens) with your Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro. 

Unlike the above ingredients, retinol is actually designed to work on the surface layer as well as deeper layers of skin (to stimulate collagen production and help firm skin). You should still use them with great care, however, as high dose retinol can be irritating and trigger ‘burns’ to skin. You should use retinol without the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro and slowly increase use to see if your skin can tolerate it. If you are using retinol/retinal with your Booster Pro routine, use about 1/6 of the amount you usually do and be sure to spread evenly across the skin. Top with a deeply soothing moisturizer and keep an eye out for any irritation. 

You’ll see the best results with very low dose retinoids (such as in the background of a hydrating moisturizer or lightweight serum) for a mixture of deep absorption and hydration. 

This can be an amazing ingredient for your skin (for almost all skin types). It improves fine lines, dark spots and helps improve skin strength and glow. It is an acid however, so using it in low doses and with care will prevent redness and drying of the skin. 

This is an awesome addition to any oily skin / acne-prone skincare routine, but it can also be irritating (causing your face to flush red and feel irritated). Using high dose niacinamide with a skincare device will only increase this inflammation many times over. So, try to stick to low doses of niacinamide and use sparingly to prevent redness.

What Products Should You Use with the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro? 
Try to pick gentle and hydrating products, keeping in mind that these will be absorbed deeply into your skin. Avoid irritating and drying products such as exfoliating acids, retinol, essential oils, fragrances and SPF. Try to pick products that benefit from deep absorption, such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, PDRN and enriching ceramides. 

How do you maximize your routine with the Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro? 
Select hydrating serums and moisturizer to use with your Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro. Start with lightweight serums and work through your routine, until you finish with your moisturizer. Adding a barrier cream to the end of your routine will help seal in extra moisture and achieve your glass skin goals. 

How to Incorporate an Active Serum in your Routine? 
When using a serum with an active ingredient (i.e. retinol, vitamin C, niacinamide) always start with a low amount when applying with your Medicube AGE-R Booster Pro.
