What's In The Bottle?
With all Korean beauty products, make-up is never just ‘make-up.’ They have the natural formulas, but they blend it with skin improving ingredients, meaning your skin gets softer, brighter and refreshed with using your make-up:
Niacinamide: brightening vitamin B3 that helps reduce appearance of dark spots and leaves a natural, deep glow to skin.
Hydrolyzed Collagen extract: with purified French collagen extract, this helps adhere gently to skin and seal in moisture for a dewy, firmer finish
Volufiline (20,000ppm): extracted from the Zhi Mu plant, this natural extract stimulates adipocytes to act as a natural ‘filler’ to reduce flat or sagging areas for an instant face lift appearance.
Adenosine: rich molecule that helps reduce fine lines and stimulates collagen production for plumper, firmer skin.
Sea Buckthorn extract: vitamin-rich ocean extract that helps boost glow, reduce scars and dark spots and leaves a protective layer against environmental stressors.
Blueberry extract: a high source of natural antioxidants that improve skin moisture, radiance and reduces risk of environmental damage for improved and youthful finish.
Evening Primrose extract: traditional healing remedy that helps boost elasticity and firmness of skin, whilst also reducing inflammation and natural redness.
Lavender oil: soothing and healing extract that helps improve skin biome repair, reduces dryness, irritation and damaged skin barrier.
Who Should Avoid?
Considering the hydrating ingredients above, this rich foundation has been made to be ideal for dry skin types and combination skin. It can be used in oily skin too, but requires good prep of skin for adherence and long-lasting finish.
If you tend to have oily skin, you can probably skip your moisturizer with this one - as it has a variety of hydrating ingredients (and will give better adherence).
The Results
I have oily-combination skin and was in need of a foundation that truly matched my skin type. I have sun-reactive skin, meaning a week in the sun and suddenly my foundation shades look ‘clowny’ or off and it is an eternal struggle. Matching your foundation up perfectly is a high-level make-up skill and it can be hard to master (especially if your target keeps changing).
After owning 3x different cushions to try to colour-match (based on the season), I was really excited at the thought of a foundation that colour matches itself. Testing out this foundation - it starts out as a creamy, white base that you add to your face. Then, you use the German-origin bristle brush to gently blend it in with your skin.
Here's the start and immediate after of blending the foundation in. You can see the immediate tone-up effect and it's actually difficult to see where the patch of foundation begins and ends. It was so incredibly creamy, soft and had a lovely, light scent to it. It has a perfectly dewy finish and took about zero effort to apply.
Above is the comparison between both sides of my face; with the ELROEL Blanc Cover Stick and without. I used the Medium shade (and was nervous that this shade might be wrong for my skin type), but the finish was beyond perfect (for how easy it was to apply).
For Reference:
Light - is a perfect shade if you have almost-white, pale and porcelain skin
Medium - is great if you have any tone or light tan to your skin
Deep - natural bronze colouring to your skin.
The immediate effect before-and-after to the redness, yet whilst being perfectly toned to my face made this an instant favourite of mine. It's genuinely really good and I can see how it went so viral so fast. If you are on the fence and are struggling to colour match - seriously this is so good!
From texture, to easy application to a lovely dewy finish (and the extra benefits to your skin). It is a perfect match for dry and combination skin, but can feel a bit overly-dewy for oily skin. You can end up with that shiny quality, so it's worth following up with a finishing powder if you wish to avoid. It also didn't trigger acne outbreaks or any irritation with a week of use - which can be a concern in creamy make-up formulas. It holds well to skin and lasted a full 8 hour day with minimal transfer or spotting.
I would really recommend this to any make-up fan who struggles with their colouring. If you already have a foundation that's the perfect colour for you, you might get less benefit (it's not a cheap foundation) - but it's still a really fun foundation to apply and perfect for lazy day perfection.
Final Thoughts
Regardless of skin type, I think I would genuinely recommend this to anyone struggling to match their foundation colour. It's so, so easy to apply, blends perfectly and has a rich, dewy finish that typically takes hours to achieve.
This is a perfect foundation for beginner's to make-up or those who struggle to do foundation layering and just want it to be easy. Because it truly is!
It hasn't got a downside that I've noted (but reportedly can be too thick for oily skin types), but it's one of the best foundations that has come out of K-beauty.
