Skinfood Rice Mask Wash Off Pack Review - Refreshing Pore Mask

Why is traditional K-beauty the best? Because it’s been reviewed, tried and tested multiple times and shown to be the best for years. Skinfood is a classic K-Beauty brand and their most popular selling item is their refreshing rice mask. Is it good for you too? Let’s put it to the test!

Skinfood is a natural Korean beauty brand that elevates vegetables to sought-after and nourishing skincare. From using carrot extract, to cucumbers and tomatoes – they've created rich toners, moisturizers and masks that help refresh the skin and infuse deep vitamins and minerals. They have over 20 years experience (since its official launch in 2003) and have had little need to change their classic products.

But none is more famous that their creamy wash off pack. It’s beloved, bought over and over and is a staple in a lot of people’s routines for it’s ability to deeply cleanse, exfoliate and refresh skin. So, where does the magic come from? What skin type is it best for? And how does it compare to the large variety of Korean wash off packs on the market? Let’s put it to the test!

What’s In The Bottle?

Skinfood’s formulas are deceptively simple, but deeply rich in nutrients. This formula contains the simplest base for a nourishing rice mask with very little extras:

Capric Triglyceride: rich emollient that helps moisturize and soothe skin, whilst improving skin barrier health. Perfect to boost hydration and balance oily skin.

Rice Bran Water: brightening and enriching extract that helps reduce fine lines, moisturize and exfoliate away dead skin cells for a glowy finish.

Algin: extracted from seaweed, helps boost natural skin healing and infuses moisture for a refreshed and softer appearance.

Sucrose Cocoate: this coconut-extract helps form a light cleanser, which refreshes pores deeply and helps form a light scrub for clearer, cleaner skin.

Vitamin E: rich antioxidant that helps protect the skin barrier from environmental damage, as well as hydrates and softens skin for deep relief and soothing action.

Sodium Hyaluronate/Polyglutamic Acid: powerful water humectant that helps draw moisture into skin cells to plump and create lasting hydrated effect.

Fragrance: extra molecules to bring scent to products. Common irritants for sensitive skin – but can boost and lift mood.

Who Should Avoid?

This light rice-based scrub is not well-designed for very dry or sensitive skin (sensitive to fragrance). It's a drying mask that is designed to balance oils, whilst exfoliating away dull skin – and could feel too dry for these skin types. It also contains fragrance, so be careful if you’ve had reactions in the past. It’s a perfect pore mask for combination skin, oily skin types and helping refresh fine lines.

The Results

I love a good pore mask – especially with oily, acne-prone skin. It’s intensely relaxing, helps clear sebum before bed and is one of the best treatment options to help clear and calm skin (in my opinion). So, hearing the popularity of this rice mask in South Korea and its versatility in a routine – I was excited to give it a try.

Immediately, this is one of my favourite pore masks and I can see why its a repeat purchase. It’s not super expensive and comes with a texture like marshmallow. It adheres easily to skin and then dries to a light powder, which exfoliates when you massage it. It’s such a creamy, rich mask that is not thick and is so refreshing and soothing to the skin.

In two weeks of use, I felt my skin was in better balance and it created a deep cleanse for my evening routine. It’s not too drying to the skin and can genuinely be used everyday for oily skin, to refresh and cleanse away impurities and stressors of the day. You can see the improvement of skin texture, improved softness and balanced oils. It also helped reduce spots and my acne due to this balance.

Final Thoughts

I can see why this is a beloved mask. It’s so simple in its formula, but the benefits are clearly demonstrated every time you use it. The marshmallow-y softness felt like mochi and was velvety against skin. It’s really lovely to use and the price point is a huge bonus. If you are looking for a refreshing mask to brighten your complexion, this one is a perfect addition to your routine.
