Dr Althea Aqua Marine Jelly Mist Review – Rich Hydration On-The-Go
Dr Althea is famous for grounded, soothing skincare that takes in elements of nature and combines it with science. They’ve developed a variety of viral, famous products that provides genuine, exciting results and use innovative ingredients (from Kakadu plum to Noni extract). From finding fame in their rich Vitamin C serum to their global acne 345 barrier cream, they’ve continued developing exciting formulas for us to try. Their newest skincare line was the Aqua Marine Water set, which includes simple (but hydrating) formulas to boost hydration for dry skin and fine lines.
What made me the most excited, however, was their Jelly Mist serum. It combines not only hydrating agents into a mist, but contains Gellan Gum for a fine jelly experience which provides richer protection for the skin barrier. It's been used well for wound healing; with an antioxidant-rich base that helps seal the barrier and prevent moisture loss. Jelly Mist Serums have been a big trend in 2026, with releases from a wide variety of brands and products. So, how does Dr Althea’s minimalist Jelly Mist hold up in a daily routine? Is it worth the purchase? Let’s put it to the test!
What's In The Bottle?
Sea Water: extracted deep-ocean extract that is rich in minerals to balance skin immune function, enhance hydration and soothe long-term redness and irritation.
Hyaluronic Acid: rich plumping humectant that draws moisture towards it, helping maintain skin moisture and reducing fine lines. This rich serum contains two weights of hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate for a trio action.
PDRN: DNA fragments that help heal and soothe skin cells, improving healing pathways and revitalizing energy pathways for refreshed, glowy skin.
Gellan Gum: fermented extract that provides a rich cover for skin, boosting cell healing, improving moisture and stabilizing cell structures for tighter shine.
Beta-Glucan: deeply hydrating extract that helps refine fine lines, enhance barrier repair and stimulate collagen production for firm bounce of skin.
Malachite extract: copper-rich mineral used to reduce cell stress, improve collagen and elastin activity and boost healing of skin structures for even skin texture.
Arginine: amino acid that maintains skin barrier function as well as boosting collagen production for reducing fine lines and creating a refreshed finish to skin.
Who Should Avoid?
This light serum has a very gentle, hydrating formula that makes it universally beneficial for almost all skin types. This glossy serum is perfect for those who love make-up and want a poreless base or anyone with dry skin who needs a touch up throughout the day.
It's also beneficial for oily skin types who are after an incredibly light source of moisture, as it forms a richly aerated gel on the skin to hydrate and cool.
The only skin type this is less likely to work for is anyone who is sensitive to one of the ingredients or who have a textural sensitivity to mists/sprays.
The Results
This rich jelly mist looked too fun not to test out and I was really excited to integrate it into my routine. The bottle inside is truly jelly, yet it comes out as a fine mist spray that clings to skin and cools instantly. It's not as fine as an aerosol, but is perfect for an immediate boost to hydration and helping reduce irritation and itch throughout the day.
I have combination skin and often get dry patches on my cheeks that I don't get elsewhere, so having a little boosting treatment on the go was amazing. When you layer the spray, you can feel the light gel formula on your skin and it absorbs quickly for a glowy, hydrated finish. It helped reduce pores for a smooth skincare finish (perfect for makeup) and can even be re-applied over the top of make-up for a dewy tone-up.
This jelly mist helped improve my skin texture in just two weeks. I used it at the end of my AM routine (helping create a smooth finish under make-up) as well as a quick spray during the day whenever I felt irritation of needed to cool down. It's been amazing in the hot summer to help refresh the skin and I love the soft jelly feel that comes with layering it.
It's a fun way to add moisture to your routine and I'd really recommend it for any make-up lover who wants a smoother finish or for oily skin types who want a lighter way to hydrate their skin (without causing outbreaks or blackheads). It's great for dry skin too, but nowhere near hydrating enough on its own to replace other steps in a routine (so may not be as beneficial as other mist options).
Final Thoughts
This light jelly mist serum is a perfect addition to a variety of routines. It's really fun to use, but also delicate and adds even hydration with a cooling mist. I would really recommend adding it to any summer routine, for travel and for achieving a poreless complexion for make-up application.
