Purcell Pixcell Biom Treatment Review: Probiotic Science & Skin Benefits
Probiotics are the acne treatment of 2026. Old school acne treatments used to lean into aggressive agents that kill off acne-causing bacteria but also wreaks havoc on your natural skin biome. Your skin microbiome is a careful population of natural bacteria that carefully live in harmony to protect you from outside invaders. They maintain your structural barrier integrity, regulates your immune response and improves natural hydration. Disruption of this skin biome is linked to chronic, worsening acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.
Probiotics give your skin biome a deep boost and replenishes the natural protective bacterial populations, which in the long-term (re-introducing protective Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium) can improve acne lesions, reduce redness, improves your skin function and cool inflammatory markers. This is for both probiotic tablets as well as probiotics in moisturizers and serums, meaning both are good ways to help heal your biome.
Purcell is at the forefront of probiotics care and arrived in 2025 with a range of exciting products targeted at improving the microbiome. Their Pixcell Biom 2billion/ml Treatment was an incredibly exciting release, accompanied by insane before and after pictures of the ampoules ability to instantly cool and refresh the skin. Was it for real? The before pictures showed incredibly red, irritated skin (often post an aggressive skincare treatment) and demonstrated improved skin in just days.
Is it possible? The pictures indicate immediate improvement is possible and that this treatment intensely transforms your skin. The science says that probiotics may be the first long-term treatment for acne (which doesn’t lead to rebounds and worsening outbreaks). Is it all true? Let’s put it to the test!
What's In The Bottle?
This treatment has 5 ingredients in totality – which is unheard of for most skincare treatments. This solidifies it’s status as an ampoule, which provides high-concentration treatment for stronger results:
Bifida Ferment lysate: rich in probiotics, this extract helps cool redness and irritated skin whilst enhancing skin barrier function. Overall improves natural hydration and balances immune function for stronger skin texture.
Lactobacillus Ferment lysate: powerful probiotic that helps inhibit acne-causing bacteria and harmful pathogens that can cause irritation and redness. Improves skin elasticity, prevents loss of moisture and provides a safe agent for sensitive skin.
Butylene Glycol: gentle and hydrating agent that helps softly enhances skin texture and provides improved absorption.
1,2-Hexanediol: humectant (for deeper moisture) and light preservative that helps stabilize the formula and ensure only healthy probiotics are present in the ampoule.
Ethylhexylglycerin: gentle moisturizing agent that helps stabilize formula and maintain skin hydration. Commonly found in acne-friendly moisturizers.
Who Should Avoid?
This lightweight ampoule is geniunely safe for sensitive skin (except for those sensitive to ethylhexylglycerin). It's rich in probiotics and 3 other hydrating agents (and nothing else), making it safe for a variety of allergens. Despite it's dramatic marketing, it's a gentle treatment that is suitable for a variety of skin types - but you are most likely to see benefits in irritated, red or acne-prone skin.
The Results
As an individual with acne-prone skin - I've tried out a variety of skincare treatments. From retinol, to azelaic acid, to AHA/BHA peels and cleansers, there's a variety of products that improve acne well in the short term. Although these treatments help reduce acne-causing bacteria well, they can also impact other protective populations on your skin and sometimes leaves you open to worsening and irritating pathogens. This can lead to a cycle or continued dependence on these treatments, where when you stop using them - the acne is instantly back.
This is where a strong probiotic ampoule becomes really exciting. I wanted to know (1) Does it improve skin? (2) Can it lead to permanent improvement?
I started using it in my evening routine. I maintained an acne-controlling routine in the morning (using higher dose niacinamide and azelaic acid to reduce spots) and simply this ampoule and a nourishing moisturizer in the evening. This allowed me to transition from stronger treatments to reduced, more gentle skincare that helped maintain moisture and improve glow.
Firstly, improvements were not visible instantly! I think the before-and-after pictures are far too dramatic to replicate in real life. But the addition of high-dose probiotics is still transformative! My skin texture was improved, I had better moisture and it reduced the immediate rebound of acne that can happen when you stop using retinol/azelaic acid etc. You can see the strengthening skin barrier and I could see reduced redness overtime. This ampoule is a wonderful transition after high-dose acne treatments, to help bring your skin back to balance.
I would recommend being sure that you use this ampoule (either AM or PM) without any irritating or abrasive treatments - such as retinol, azelaic acid, exfoliating agents etc. It should simply be used with hydrating and soothing agents. This allows you to split your skincare into treatments and healing - giving you a treatment period (using your exfoliants, retinol etc) and a healing period (using a probiotic ampoule and gentle moisturizer). I saw the improvements at about the two week mark, but they were great! There was a clear reduction in spots, better skin texture and even a natural glow.
Final Thoughts
This ampoule is an exciting addition to modern acne treatments and helps give your skin time to repair and heal after treating direct acne lesions and spots. Although it's suitable for all skin types, it's the best for acne-prone, irritated, dry or damaged skin (as you'll likely see the best results and have high satisfaction). Take care not to use it with antibacterial agents (it defeats the purpose) and follow with only a skin-compatible moisturizer to ensure you get maximum benefit out of the ampoule.
