The Story of Celimax - Brand History, Range & Philosophy

Celimax has hit amazing highs throughout its career, dominating other Korean beauty brands with only a simple variety of products. From their incredibly viral Vita-A Retinal Shot Tightening Booster (currently restricted in Australia) to their beloved Ji Woo Gae toning pads, how did they get started. The minimalist brand heralds science-backed skincare that combines traditional ingredients with soothing, sensitive formulas. With only 6 skincare lines, how have they created skincare that lasts through the trends? Let’s dive into the history, beginnings and benefits of Celimax’s incredible skincare range. 

The beginning of Celimax started with a single product, designed to test the market and enter the market. In 2019, trained businessman Kim Min-Seok was challenged by his mentors to break into Korean beauty. With the booming success of other Korean beauty brands, it was an appealing market, but a daunting one. Therefore, they started research and development, with a mixture of scientific research and soothing skincare products to design their first baby: 

The Ji Woo Gae Heartleaf BHA Peeling Pad. Designed to help soothe and treat acne-prone skin, it was a soft, exfoliating cotton pad that was soaked deeply in a hydrating toner, enriched with exfoliating BHA to clear pores and refresh the skin. The name ‘Ji Woo Gae’ (지우개) means eraser and was essentially designed to reduce spots, clear pores and create smooth, clean skin that was ‘erased’ of impurities. 

The success of Celimax hinged on reactions to this first product and when it received great customer reviews, the small team at Celimax expanded the Ji Woo Gae range: 

Designed for face and body, they created a variety of refreshing toning pads for acne-prone skin that still reigns as one of the best in South Korea. As a researcher/tester, however, I would not recommend their Baking Soda face cleanser as although it makes your face feel ‘squeaky’ clean, can cause a harmful pH imbalance in acne. Baking sodas are a popular product in South Korea (and more K-beauty ranges have one), but low pH cleansers are far more beneficial to improving your skin health.

Following their famous Ji-Woo-Gae skincare range, Celimax followed up with another hit with their Noni skincare range. What is Noni? It's a high-energy plant (a cousin of coffee) also known as Morinda Citrifolia. It has a variety of skincare benefits including:

This skincare range became the ultimate solution to dry skin. Why? Enriched with deep hydrating ingredients, they include a deep variety of ceramides to help rebuild and strengthen the skin barrier (preventing water loss). Boosted with other hydrating ingredients (such as panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and even innovative peptide ‘Aquatide’ to stimulate natural ceramide production), this skincare range is still a stand-out healing routine for dry skin types.

Celimax also released a skincare range to improve hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Infused with tranexamic acid for refreshing stubborn spots and K-beauty's favourite ✨Niacinamide. Although their Pore + Dark range is ideal for dark spots and oily skin, their oil-control range is the perfect addition to help keep skin feeling light and dry. Infused with sebum p, it helps prevent oil build up on the skin, keeping pores feeling refreshed and clear. Their Oil-Control sunstick is their most popular item from this skincare line, which helps create a matte finish and blends well with make-up.

Although Celimax was popular before, it was nothing compared to what was coming. The release of their Retinal Tightening Booster Shot was a revolution for the power of Celimax. Complete with spicules, firming retinal and matrixyl 3000 to instantly tighten and boost wrinkles and blemishes.
