Bloom Skin Make-up Guide – How to Make Your Skin Come Alive in 2026
Korean beauty is dominating the space in 2026, with some of the coolest new skincare technology, best scientific advances and products that yield real results you can see. Western beauty has a lot to answer for (specifically to me) for stringing us all along with inferior products that shied away from exciting ingredients and innovation.
It should come as no surprise, that Korean make-up is also an exciting new space. They have their own unique formulas and products that are designed to elevate your look, but also to stay soft and natural. This has inspired K-beauty's newest look, ‘Blooming Skin’ (or 피어나는 피부). Where previous trends were all about creating flawless, sheer and glassy skin, Bloom Skin is about embracing a natural and deeply healthy glow (whilst adding a touch of warmth to your cheeks and lips to create the rosy shine of a blooming flower).
You don’t have to spend loads of dollars on expensive skincare for this one, there’s a few simple techniques you can use to get your skin vibrant and blooming. It’s all about natural palettes, a light hand and elevating your best features 🩷.
The Foundation of Bloom Skin
The foundation is always the most important part of K-beauty. If we’re trying for a naturally, healthy glow – it's important to be sure to cleanse skin gently, pat dry and apply your skincare in smooth, hydrating layers. Be sure to give each product time to absorb and pick products that help bring out smoother, plumper skin (such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid, PDRN).
Ensure you give your full routine about 5 minutes to dry prior to starting your make-up routine, giving you a stable and refreshing canvas to start on.
Start your make-up routine with a good primer, helping to smooth the skin and get foundation adhering well. Picking out a good primer is important to make sure your application is smooth and creamy, giving you that flawless glow:
Apieu Start Up Pore Primer
Ideal for: dry and normal skin type
Some By Mi Spirulina PDRN Poreless Primer
Ideal for: oily, combination skin types
Missha M B.B Boomer
Ideal for: balancing moisture, large pores, fine lines
With foundation, it's vital to colour match well, as you're trying to get a natural finish. Aim for a lightweight, creamy foundation that will blend easily with the skin and aim for warmer tones that blend well with rosy, floral colours.
If you struggle to colour match well, check out the really cool Elroel Cover Cream Stick. It's designed to blend into your natural skin tone, warmed by your skin and it is rich in a variety of hydrating and plumping ingredients that make ‘Bloom Skin’ easy.
You only have to pick between three main colours (light - for paler skin, medium - for soft tones and deep - for tanned skin).
If you prefer a BB cream, you can check out the refreshing, creamy glow from the new Missha M Cover Serum, which is infused with antioxidants and healing ingredients, that help keep your skin naturally clear and bright (whilst also providing creamy, flawless perfection!)
The Power of Blush🌷
This is the crux of ‘Bloom Skin' and really where the money is to look cute and glowy. The colour should match your natural tone - i.e. if you have cooler colours pick a cool, soft pink or icy red. If you tend to run warmer colours, pick out a warm orange or deep pink.
Always use blush with a light touch, blend well and place atop your cheekbones (think of where the light naturally hits your face) for a deep radiance.
Our favourite winter picks for a touch of vibrant blush includes:
Apieu Juicy-Pang Water Blusher (PK03)
This delicate floral blush is perfect for a natural, creamy bloom skin look. The colour is subtle, easy to apply and a big seller in South Korea.
Colorgram TinTin Dory Duo Blusher 5 (Red Heart)
Although the colour may look bold, this soft application gives an incredibly soft sun-kissed look that is perfect for more dramatic eye make-up (whilst still looking natural).
Fwee Lip&Cheek Blurry Pudding Pot (D-Day)
If you want a vibrant red, which is easily applied to the cheek (and can be used to create a matching lip tint), this is a great choice for a bright and warm make-up look.
Natural Colours for Eye Make-up
The Bloom Skin look is finished with natural eye make-up; with a earth tone eye shadow and browns for eye liner, eyebrow liner and mascara.
The goal is a natural, but uplifted look that celebrates your glow without overshadowing it.
The Chic Eyebrow Pencil 02 | Mocha Brown
Warm brown and soft eye tint to gently shape your brows
Kaja Beauty Bento 08 (Chocolate Dahlia)
Rich and warm earthy colours for easy contouring and shading for all your natural (and dramatic) looks.
Dear May Crunchie Pop Eyeliner (Brown)
Incredibly slim for easy (and precise) application for natural, but perfect eye lining.
And Have Fun with It!
Bloom Skin is a technique that involves a gentle hand, plenty of blending and a lot of light, natural colours that suit your skin tone.
Don't forget to have fun with your make-up; experiment, try out new looks and you'll get better with each try~!
